Balance for Better: Celebrating International Women’s Day with Stephanie MacDougall
Cape Breton University Development Communications Specialist, Stephanie MacDougall, has a lot to take pride in on (IWD) this year. In addition to her role on the Development and Alumni team at CBU, Stephanie volunteers as the Chair of the Board.
The Cape Breton Transition House is an 18 bed and two crib emergency shelter for women and children who need a safe haven from abusive home situations. The Foundation also supports additional housing units as well as running several outreach and therapy programs.
While assisting the Transition House Foundation with an event, Stephanie became close with the board members, witnessing how much of an impact they have on the women in our 福利免费在线看. Stephanie has now been on the board for five years and says she is thankful for the opportunity to work with such smart, dedicated and driven women.
Stephanie says she is also thankful to work at an institution that encourages volunteer activity and 福利免费在线看 involvement. 鈥淐BU is very supportive when it comes to my volunteer work with the Transition House,鈥� says Stephanie. 鈥淣ot only am I given the time I need, plus great advice and guidance on leading a board, but the CBU 福利免费在线看 also consistently shows their support through ticket sales and event attendance.鈥�
When asked what she enjoys most about being a CBU employee, Stephanie says it relates back to this year鈥檚 IWD theme, balance. 鈥淚n all areas of the University, you can see women in leadership roles,鈥� says Stephanie. 鈥淗aving women in these roles brings different perspectives and views to the table and I am honoured to be able to learn from these strong women as I continue to build my own career.鈥�
To celebrate International Women鈥檚 Day on March 8, the Transition House Foundation will be hosting a luncheon at Flavor 19. 鈥淲e have organized a panel of 福利免费在线看 members who will discuss the importance of gender balance and equality, the responsibility of privilege and how we can all work together to notice the absence of gender equality and celebrate its presence,鈥� says Stephanie.
Panellists include Jodi Wilson, Cape Breton Regional Police Sergeant; Scott Thomas, CBU Human Rights Officer; and Allison MacDonald, Marketing Manager at Protocase.
