My CBU Story: Meet Michelle Wilson

While working at the Sydney Downtown Development Association, CBU student turned employee, Michelle Wilson, began seeking an opportunity to improve her skills in order to better serve her organization and the local 福利免费在线看. After some initial research, she found a program that perfectly suited her needs and didn鈥檛 require her to go very far. In fact, she was able to take the entire program online. Through CBU鈥檚 Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Community Economic Development program, Michelle discovered a new path forward in life.聽

鈥淎s someone who ran a small business in Downtown Sydney, I had gained an acute awareness of the value of choosing local,鈥 says Michelle. 鈥淐ombining that with the fact that CBU offered a unique program that perfectly suited my career, I loved the idea of being able to learn locally too.鈥

Michelle enjoyed gaining new perspectives through collaboration with professors and professionals from across Canada during the program, but this didn鈥檛 come without its challenges. 鈥淎s a full-time student balancing a demanding work environment, serving on multiple boards and fulfilling my responsibilities as a wife and mother of two teenage boys, I faced significant challenges,鈥 says Michelle. 鈥淗owever, this experience has not only challenged me to step outside my comfort zone but has also deepened my understanding of the various topics covered in the program. All of this has shown me how much I can accomplish with determination and focus.鈥

Michelle is thankful for all of the love and support she received along the way which kept her pushing forward to graduation. Between her life coach, family, friends and former colleague, Danielle, she was able to persevere and overcome any hurdles she faced. Michelle also found plenty of help within the University as well. 鈥淚 will forever be grateful for the professors and staff who are so passionate about what they do and were willing to share that passion with us,鈥 says Michelle. 鈥淭hey took the time to meet with me and guide me through rough patches, or provide encouragement, advice and extra help when I needed it most.鈥

Eventually, Michelle decided it was time for a career change. When she began searching, she came across a job posting for the role of Operations Supervisor in the Department of Student Financial Accounts at CBU. 鈥淐BU’s reputation as a 福利免费在线看 leader, coupled with feedback from others who had successfully transitioned to roles there reinforced my interest,鈥 she says. 鈥淎dditionally, as a firm believer in lifelong learning, being part of a learning institution was a huge factor in my decision.鈥

Now a full-time employee with the University and on her way to becoming a two-time graduate, Michelle wishes to share her experiences with those who may be considering CBU for education or employment in the future. 鈥淭hroughout my journey, I often found myself among the oldest in my cohorts, and this experience has reinforced my belief that the pursuit of knowledge should never end,鈥 says Michelle. 鈥淚n today鈥檚 world, there are countless opportunities to learn and grow. Embrace the challenges that come your way and adopt the mindset of a lifelong student. Remember, you鈥檙e never too old to learn something new or change your trajectory in life.鈥
