Shuttle Program and Transit Tips

To the CBU Student Community,

Here at CBU, we are always looking for ways to elevate the student experience. That鈥檚 why we are excited to let you know about a new transit initiative we are introducing this semester.听

To supplement Transit Cape Breton services, CBU will offer free, daily shuttles between CBU, Cineplex and 500 George Street to assist students with travel to our CBU sites. The shuttle service will run Monday to Friday from 10:00am-6:00pm.听

The two shuttles, currently identified as white, six passenger vans with the CBU logo, will travel between each location as needed.听

Pick-up / Drop-off Locations:听

  • CBU Campus: Roundabout outside the Canada Games Complex (near the bus stop)
  • Cineplex: Main doors
  • 500 George Street: George Street door (main parking lot)

Cape Breton Transit – CBU Express Route Change听

Transit Cape Breton has made some adjustments to better accommodate students attending classes at Cineplex with a new route and stop. The new stop is located next to Cineplex on Inglis Street, and is a closer, safer stop for all riders. Bus stop signage is now posted at this location. Given this change, the CBU Express will no longer service Charlotte Street, Bentinck Street or Prince Street until it reaches the intersection of Inglis Street.听

If you are in downtown Sydney and want to use the CBU Express, please go directly to the transfer hub located at Pitt Street and George Street.听

Transit Tips

To assist you in navigating the Transit Cape Breton system, please read the tips below carefully:

  • Before leaving your residence, check the for updates to make sure there are no cancellations, detours or delays to your route. During snow days and holidays, all closures or changes to routes will be posted there.听
  • Check route schedules. A list of routes, maps and schedules can be found at . Use the 鈥淢ap鈥� feature to track your bus in real time.听
  • Anticipate delays and travel early. Transit Cape Breton is anticipating a higher volume of ridership than previous semesters. For example, if you have a class at 8:30am, we encourage you to consider taking the 7:00am or 7:30am bus, as opposed to the 8:00am bus.听
  • Be patient! There are many people going in different directions and problems that may arise are often not the fault of the bus driver. Their job is to get you to your destination safely. If you have questions, comments or concerns, send an email to 311cbrm@cbrm.ns.ca or call 311.听
  • Have your bus pass or exact change ready before you board the bus. As buses are overwhelmed with ridership at this time, Transit Cape Breton does not have time to wait. The bus drivers will ask you to deboard and wait for the next bus if you are not prepared.
  • Be kind! Transit Cape Breton will not tolerate abusive language, pushing or shoving to get on a bus. Bus drivers will not permit entrance until passengers are boarding in an orderly fashion.
