Today, the Cape Breton University Alumni Association is announcing a $50,000 gift to the CBU Perseverance: Student Relief Fund to help support students who are affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic. This gift is part of the University鈥檚 participation in the global movement of Giving Tuesday.
#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020, as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19 and Cape Breton University is participating to help support the Perseverance: Student Relief Fund.
鈥淐OVID-19 has affected all of us. Our goal is to support students who have significant needs during these challenging days,鈥 says Kelsea MacNeil, President of the Cape Breton University Alumni Association. 鈥淲ith so many feeling the weight of COVID-19, our aim is to provide support for those students most in need during these challenging times.鈥
The Perseverance: Student Relief Fund is an emergency bursary fund established to assist CBU students facing hardship due to COVID-19. Students interested in applying to the fund can visit CBU.ca.
鈥淭his fund is based on our University鈥檚 motto 鈥楶erseverance Will Triumph鈥 and these words have become so much more than a just motto for us,鈥 says CBU President David C. Dingwall. 鈥淥ur students are experiencing great hardships during this difficult time and we hope with this fund to relieve some of that. We are all in this together, and together we will overcome.鈥
