Cape Breton University (CBU) is proud to announce a generous gift from the Bras d鈥橭r Nature Trust to support the work of the Bras d鈥橭r Institute, a leading centre for research, collaboration and conservation focused on the Bras d鈥橭r Lake and its surrounding ecosystems.
This timely donation coincides with the recent appointment of Drs. Rod Beresford and Alana Pindar as co-directors of the Institute. Both scientists bring strong records in applied, 福利免费在线看-focused research and a deep commitment to protecting Atlantic Canada鈥檚 ecological heritage.
鈥淭his generous gift from the Bras d鈥橭r Nature Trust will allow us to deepen our impact across Unama鈥檏i,鈥 says Dr. Pindar. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to expand research opportunities and work closely with communities who have long cared for these lands and waters.鈥

The donation will enhance the Institute鈥檚 capacity in climate change research, biodiversity monitoring, acoustic ecology and land-based knowledge sharing while also supporting meaningful student training opportunities rooted in place.
The directors of the Trust say they are enthusiastic about this new chapter of collaboration. 鈥淭he Bras d鈥橭r Lake has always been more than a body of water鈥攊t鈥檚 a living system that ties together communities, cultures and ecosystems,鈥 says Clair Rankin. 鈥淭his partnership helps ensure that the knowledge and care needed to protect it will thrive for generations.鈥

The Bras d鈥橭r Nature Trust was created in 1993 with a mandate of acquiring conservation easements. Over the decades, the Trust has contributed to the successful acquisitions of more than 2000 acres of waterfront lands. This collaboration will enable continued success and new opportunities.
